Annual Dinner and Program

The International Bonhoeffer Society – English Language Section invites you to our annual Bonhoeffer Society Dinner and Program, which is held conjointly with the American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting. All are welcome.

WHEN:

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20th, 2026

TIME: 

5:30PM, GATHERING & WINE RECEPTION

6:00-7:15PM, DINNER

7:15-8:30PM, PROGRAM: Clifford J. Green Tribute

WHERE: 

St. Paul Center for Music and the Arts, 1600 Grant Street, Denver, CO

(The venue is just shy of a mile from the Denver Convention Center.)

The cost of the dinner & program is $50.

CLIFFORD J. GREEN TRIBUTE

This year’s annual dinner will pay tribute to Clifford Green, a founding member of the International Bonhoeffer Society—English Language Section, who died on April 22, 2026.

Recognizing and giving thanks for his lasting contributions to the IBS-ELS and Bonhoeffer scholarship, we will spend time reflecting on his legacy. However, while his scholarly contributions are unsurpassed, the friendships and relationships he kept throughout the years were equally important. There is probably no one associated with the IBS-ELS who was not touched in some way by Clifford. And it is unlikely that there would be an IBS-ELS without Cliff’s leadership.

The annual dinner is a proper venue because Cliff was a central figure and constant presence at our annual gatherings, and there was nothing more that Cliff liked than to gather with friends and colleagues over a delicious meal, drinks, and lively conversation. In that way, he embodied the spirit of the International Bonhoeffer Society.

In that spirit, attendees will be encouraged to share stories about Cliff around the dinner table.

The formal program will be a series of tributes offered in Cliff’s memory. Official tributes will be offered by:

In addition to the formal tributes, there will be time for attendees to offer their own brief remarks (as time permits).

There will also be a display table where selected works and photos highlighting Cliff’s career can be perused. Anyone who has photos of Cliff is encouraged to bring them to the dinner for inclusion in the display. Any questions about the display should be directed to Mark Brocker at [email protected].
